What is a range-extended vehicle?
Extended range
The extended range can be understood as adding a generator to a pure electric vehicle. The engine generates electricity and the electric motor drives the vehicle. When the battery power is sufficient, the vehicle will drive in pure electric mode. When the battery power is insufficient, the engine in the car will automatically turn on to drive the generator to charge the battery. Current mainstream models include Ideal ONE, Lantu FREE, Cyrus SF5, etc.
✨Advantages
(1) It has the advantages of quiet driving and fast acceleration of electric vehicles. In an environment where charging is convenient, it can be used as a pure electric vehicle without refueling and the cost of use is very low.
(2) Since the vehicle has an engine to generate electricity, when charging is not possible, it can obtain power by refueling at a gas station. That is to say, as long as there is a gas station, this type of vehicle can keep driving (always relying on the output power of the generator) driving, because the output power of the engine is only used to generate electricity for the generator)
(3) The engine does not directly drive the wheels, so the engine speed is not directly related to the wheel speed or the car speed. Through system optimization, the engine can always work in the optimal speed range. Even if charging cannot be performed, the fuel consumption can still be achieved when the engine is started. relatively low.
🥺Disadvantages
(1) It causes a waste of power. Since the engine and generator do not directly drive the wheels, this part of the power is wasted, but the weight of the engine and generator is not reduced. For example, the engine power of an extended-range plug-in hybrid vehicle 50KW, the generator power is 50KW, the motor power is 100KW, the whole vehicle carries an engine and motor with a total power of 200KW, but the power that can drive the wheels is only 100KW
(2) Under highway conditions, fuel consumption will be high. Under highway conditions, if the engine directly drives the wheels, the vehicle can maintain the best working condition. However, extended-range plug-in hybrid vehicles require a conversion process, and the conversion itself It consumes energy, resulting in high fuel consumption.
